Hello

My name is Midwife Megan. I have been a midwife for 6 years and love what I do! I named my business Peace & Love Midwifery because when babies are born out of the hospital, they are born into a peaceful environment and they have peace. You can tell by the way they are calm when they are skin to skin on their mother's chest. And I am one of those people that have a really big heart and just have so much love for the families I serve. We may even become friends in the end.

My Story

I always thought I wanted to be a doctor when I was growing up. Then I learned that nurses are the ones typically on the front lines "doing" all the things. So I set out to become a nurse. It was difficult but eventually I succeeded and began my career in nursing. After doing the recommended 2 years in the adult world (med surge/tele/pedi), I transferred to the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). I absolutely loved working there with the little babies and some big babies as well as provide loving support to the parents during their difficult and sometimes scary moments in the first weeks of their babies lives. Ironically, while pregnant and working in the NICU, my daughter (and baby #2) decided to be born early at 34w5d and required a NICU stay herself. Also while pregnant with my daughter is the first time I heard the term "midwife". A nurse friend was planning a home birth with a midwife. I thought she was crazy after everything we had witnessed at deliveries. Eventually, my family and I moved from San Antonio, Tx to Houston, TX in 2012 and I found a job in a lower level NICU where I also worked in the regular well baby nursery. It was there that I attended lower risk births. After the move, I got pregnant with baby #3. I had an awful experience attending a couple prenatal appointments with an OBGYN. And between that, my history of miscarriage, and my history of intense not great feelings surrounding my 2 prior hospital deliveries, I thought there had to be something better out there. Browsing around I found a Birth Center was partially covered with my insurance company and I thought "Ok, I will give a midwife a try". By the end of my initial consultation I felt peace and comfort with going with a midwife and honestly now desired a home birth. My husband at the time wasn't comfortable with that, so we agreed on a birth center delivery. The night I went into labor we called the midwife after 10 minutes of strong frequent contractions. A plan was made to meet at the birth center. But I couldn't get in the car because the contractions were back to back and all of a sudden I had to push! He came out accidentally unassisted at home. Remember I was a NICU nurse, so when he cried immediately I knew everything was going to be ok. The midwife arrived to my apartment shortly after and helped me deliver the placenta, check for tears, do the newborn exam, assist me to the bathroom, monitor my bleeding, the whole works. It was AMAZING!!! By my 6 week postpartum check up I knew I was called to become a Midwife. And ya'll, after Nursing school, I was like "I am NOT going back to school EVER!" LOL. But with this calling/fire/passion inside of me, I was more....than...willing. I set out on my journey to become a midwife. It seemed long and difficult but it was oh so worth it. My dream became 3 fold. I wanted to become a midwife, own a birth center, and be able to take Medicaid. I had difficulties paying for midwifery care for baby #3, 4, and 5. I felt and still feel that midwifery care should be affordable for everyone. I also believe in informed choice and not just informed consent. You will not be judged if you do not want to vaccinate or circumcise your baby. You won't get threatened if you do not want your baby to receive vitamin K or eye ointment. I am a very good listener. I will always ask your consent before doing a vaginal exam and if the answer is "No", then you will be respected. I am a very trustworthy and caring person and am honestly honored to assist families on their prenatal, birth, and postpartum journey's out-of-hospital. I am happy to report I became a licensed midwife in 2018 and started doing home births. I can't believe the first babies I delivered as a licensed midwife are turning 6 this year! I was able to open a birth center in Houston and take Medicaid but it was time to move. I am happy to be back in my hometown of San Antonio. I will begin doing home births and one day open a center in San Antonio that takes Medicaid. My expertise is in waterbirth, VBAC, VBA2C, twin and breech deliveries out-of-hospital. I would love to meet you!
